OUR DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE

As we work through the process towards opening our store, Free Range Food Co-op will be following a timeline that includes three main stages of development. This timeline is both owner and task driven. The idea is that we work carefully within this timeline, and address the critical tasks and ownership goals before we move on to the next stage.  Our goal to move into Stage 2B is April 30th, 2018.

 

STAGE 1: ORGANIZING - COMPLETED

0 - 250 Owners


  • Begin to organize and recruit volunteers
  • Incorporate Organization
  • Form Board of Directors and finalize by-laws
  • Set up financial and record keeping systems
  • Conduct community survey
  • Start building community ownership
  • Build website and social media pages

STAGE 2A: FEASIBILITY - ALMOST COMPLETED

250 - 500 Owners


  • Conduct market and feasibility studies
  • Build local grower/producer relationships
  • Develop business plan
  • Build strong owner growth team

STAGE 2B: PLANNING

500 - 700 Owners


  • Begin process of hiring general manager
  • Complete site analysis and secure store location
  • Develop capital campaign model
  • Finalize Business Plan
  • Approach cooperative lenders

STAGE 3A: PRE-CONSTRUCTION

700 - 900 Owners


  • Hire general manager
  • Recruit new owners based on store location
  • Launch capital campaign and secure external funding
  • Secure contracts with local and regional growers and producers
  • Finalize plans for store design and renovation

STAGE 3B & C: CONSTRUCTION & OPENING PREPARATION

900 - 1200+ Owners


  • Finalize budget
  • Work with general manager to hire and train staff
  • Order and install equipment and inventory
  • Open the store!
